Giant Summit Koh Samui — the viewpoint road through the Na Muang hills (2026)
Giant Summit is a viewpoint in the Na Muang hills, in the middle of the island, with a wide view over the jungle. It sits in the same hills as Na Muang Waterfall 2, so for a rider the real question is less the view and more the short, steep road up. This page covers how I would ride it, when, and what to pair it with.

Getting there by scooter
Giant Summit is about 19 km from central Chaweng along my route, or about 10 km from Lamai, the nearest coast town. Giant Summit is about 600 m in a straight line from Na Muang Waterfall 2, but that does not tell you the road distance between them.
Expect the final climb to be steep. In my experience, the hill roads on Samui mix concrete and patched asphalt, and sand or leaves collect in the corners. Keep a steady throttle on the way up and do not stop on the steepest part. On the way down, use both brakes gently and early, and do not ride the rear brake all the way.
What you get there and how long to stay
The point of Giant Summit is the viewpoint. You stand in the Na Muang hills and look out over the forest that covers the centre of Samui. There is no beach or temple to fill an afternoon. It is a viewpoint, so 30–45 minutes is enough for photos and a rest after the climb.
Bring water. I do not know whether there is reliably anything to eat or drink at the top, so check on site and do not count on it. Wear closed shoes if you have them. For walking around, closed shoes are a better choice than flip-flops.
When to go
- Morning, before about 10 — the air is clearer, the climb is cooler for you and the engine, and there are fewer scooters on the narrow road.
- Midday — it works, but the heat on the climb is tiring and the light is flat. Haze often softens the distance.
- Late afternoon — the light is softer. Plan to be down on the main road before dark, because hazards are harder to see in the dark. More in rain and night riding.
- Rain season, October–December — on a steep concrete road, rain turns the surface slick. If it is pouring or has just poured, wait it out or come back another day. The waterfalls nearby are fuller then, which is the one upside.
Combine with
Giant Summit is a stop on my waterfalls route (69.3 km, Na Muang, Hin Lad, Wang Saotong). It fits into that route without a long detour.
The obvious pair is Na Muang Waterfall 2, about 600 m away in a straight line. Do the summit first while you are dry, then walk to the fall. Namuang Safari Park is roughly 1 km from Giant Summit in a straight line.
The Secret Buddha Garden is only about 1.2 km north in a straight line, but it has its own steep access road up Pom Mountain. Two steep climbs in one morning is a lot for a new rider. If the first one felt hard, keep the second for another day.
Questions
Where is Giant Summit on Koh Samui?
It is in the Na Muang hills in the centre-south of the island, next to Na Muang Waterfall 2. You reach it from the 4169 via the Na Muang waterfall turn-off.
Can a beginner ride the road up to Giant Summit?
If you are comfortable on hills and can brake smoothly downhill, yes. If you have only ridden flat roads in Chaweng, expect the last climb to feel steep. Go in dry weather and in the morning, when traffic is light.
Is Giant Summit worth it in the rainy season?
Only on a dry window. From October to December the steep section gets slick after rain, so wait for the road to dry or skip it that day.
How much time should I plan?
About 30–45 minutes at the top, plus the ride in. Paired with Na Muang 2 it makes an easy half day from Lamai or Chaweng.
