Lad Koh viewpoint — the sea view you ride past anyway (2026)

Lad Koh (Lat Ko) is the easiest viewpoint on Samui: it is a widening of the ring road 4169 on the headland between Chaweng Noi and Lamai, with a rock platform over the sea. The approach has a steep section, but you ride past it on trips south from Chaweng, so stop.

Getting there by scooter

  • From Chaweng: south on the 4169 past Chaweng Noi; the road climbs the headland and the viewpoint is on your left at the top of the rise, about 8 km from central Chaweng. Allow roughly 15–20 minutes.
  • From Lamai: north on the 4169; after the bend above Lamai bay look for the roadside parking on your right.
  • Road: asphalt, with a steep section on the approach. Be careful turning across traffic to park — slow down early and watch for approaching vehicles.
  • Parking: at the roadside by the platform; free.

What you get

A rock platform and a short path down to the boulders, looking east over the Gulf — Chaweng Noi bay to the left, the Lamai headland to the right. For me it is a short stop, not a destination; its value is that it costs nothing in effort.

Sunrise is the time: the viewpoint faces the open sea and the sun comes straight out of it. Midday it is hot and flat; late afternoon the light is behind you.

Cafes on the same headland

Two places with a view can extend the ride — Beverly Hills in the hills above Chaweng Noi, and Vikasa about 3 km south of Lad Koh towards Lamai:

  • Vikasa Life Cafe — clifftop cafe with a panoramic ocean terrace, a proper breakfast after a sunrise stop.
  • Beverly Hills Cafe — up in the hills above Chaweng Noi, with a very steep approach.

Both are on the map above; tap a pin for directions.

Combine with

Lad Koh is the first stop on the ring road loop. If you are only doing the east coast, continue to Lamai Viewpoint and Overlap Stone — both in the viewpoints overview.

Questions

Is parking at Lad Koh viewpoint free?

Yes. Parking by the viewpoint is free.

Can I reach Lad Koh with a 50cc or an electric scooter?

The approach includes a steep section, so do not assume every 50cc or electric scooter will manage it. Consider the scooter's climbing ability and your load.

How long from Chaweng to Lad Koh?

About 8 km from central Chaweng, heading south on the 4169; roughly 15–20 minutes at a relaxed pace.
