Silver Beach Koh Samui — the cove between Chaweng and Lamai (2026)
Silver Beach and Crystal Bay are one small cove on the headland between Chaweng and Lamai. I stop when I am already on the ring road and the sea looks calm enough for a mask; I would not cross the island for it alone. This page is the scooter approach, how long to stay, and what to ride it with.

Getting there by scooter
Silver Beach Koh Samui is that cove, and the way in is the ring road. From Chaweng, ride south on the 4169. After the south end of Chaweng the road climbs and winds. In my experience trucks cut the corners, so stay in your lane and brake before the bend, not in it. From Lamai, the nearest beach to the south, ride the same hill north — a short climb out of the bay and you are level with the cove.
The beach pin and Vikasa Life Cafe at Lat Ko are almost the same point on the cliff. There is free parking about 100 metres from the beach pin; park off the road and continue on foot. The approach includes a very steep section, so judge it against your riding experience. I ride this hill in daylight.
The cove and how long to stay
What you get is a small cove. Crystal Bay is the other name — maps and riders use both. Crystal Bay Koh Samui snorkeling is the reason to get off the bike: on a calm morning, a short swim with a mask from the shore. Clarity depends on swell and rain, so look at the surface before you get in.
About an hour is enough, two if you dry off and sit. For a longer beach stop, Lamai is another option to the south. Vikasa Life Cafe is the clifftop cafe with the ocean view, on the same spot. I do not track its hours; check on site.
When to go
Go in the morning. This is the east coast: the sea is usually calmer before the breeze fills in, and the hill is quieter before traffic out of Chaweng builds. By midday the heat can make a stop less comfortable. Snorkel, then leave. In the hotter months that is the whole plan. Morning light is the one worth having on this side. Bring water; I cannot tell you what is open down in the cove.
Rain season is October to December. The first minutes of a downpour can leave the road slick, and the walk down is the part I skip in the wet. If it is already raining when you set out, ride past. Wet roads and riding after dark are on the rain and night page. I have no crowd counts; a weekday morning is when the stop makes sense.
What to combine it with
Silver Beach works as a pause on a ride you are already making. Coming from the north, Coral Cove is first: a tiny boulder cove on the same headland. If the sea is calm, stop there, then roll south to this one. The Lad Koh viewpoint is farther north, about 2.5 kilometres from this cove in a straight line. Past that, the road drops into Lamai.
For a longer day, this hill is the east-coast piece of the ring road. One cove and an hour at Lamai fills a half morning. Both small coves and the rest of the loop fill a day. Pick one place to stay put: Lamai for sand, the cove if you came to snorkel. From Lamai, climb to Silver Beach first, then Coral Cove, and drop toward Chaweng — one climb. Turning back at Lamai is a normal end to the morning.
