Samrong Bay Koh Samui, a quiet beach at the north tip (2026)

Samrong Bay sits at the northern tip of Koh Samui, a small bay for a quiet stop. I would plan a short visit: look at the water, then move on. This page is the ride from Chaweng, what the bay is worth, and what to put on the same morning.

Getting there by scooter

From Chaweng, ride north past the airport toward Choeng Mon, then keep going until the road is only serving the northern tip. Choeng Mon is about two kilometres southeast in a straight line; the road is longer, so follow the pin rather than a guessed time. From Choeng Mon itself it is a short continuation toward the tip, not a separate trip.

There is an asphalt road near the bay. The last turn down to the bay is not on any mapped route of mine, so I will not promise width or surface. Expect a short side lane and decide when you see it. If it is gravel, steep, or clearly not a public track, turn around. That is a check for the day, not a fact I can lock in.

I have no marked parking for this bay. Leave the scooter off the track and off any driveway, and move if you are in the way. Range from Chaweng is not the issue; the last stretch is.

What you get, and how long to stay

What you get is the thing people mean by samrong beach samui quiet: a small bay at the northern tip, away from Chaweng. It is not a second Chaweng, and I have no cafe, chairs or shop I can send you to. Bring water. If you need a meal or a toilet, sort that in Choeng Mon before the last bit, and see what is open when you arrive.

Plan on half an hour to an hour. That covers locking the scooter, walking the shore and sitting with the water. Stay longer only if the sea looks calm enough to swim and you came ready. I do not have a note on rocks, current or a lifeguard, so that call is yours on the day. If there is no shade, the hour gets short on its own.

When to go

Go in the morning, before the heat sits on the bay. I would skip midday unless you can see cover when you arrive. Late afternoon still works if you want to be back on the coast road before dark.

October to December is the wet season. Showers are often short, but the first minutes of rain make the asphalt slick, and a side lane at the tip is where I would rather not be in a downpour. Wait it out, then ride. I would not ride an unfamiliar track down to Samrong Bay after dark: poor visibility makes an unfamiliar lane harder to judge, and nothing here requires a night visit. More on that is on the rain and night riding page.

Look at the surface before you swim, and stay out if it is choppy. I have no seasonal note on swimming here.

What to combine it with

None of my mapped routes includes Samrong Bay as a stop, so the bay will not appear on those GPX tracks by itself. Add the pin if you want a navigator to take you off the coast road. The ride to hang it on is the north coast route: a short out-and-back from that side of the island, then on your way. I would not build a whole day around one quiet beach.

Two stops nearby fit the same morning. Tongsai Bay is the secluded resort bay on the northeast coast, a different kind of quiet. The Cocoon is the hilltop restaurant to the south. Its approach is very steep, so consider that before adding it to the morning. Choeng Mon, the calm crescent just to the southeast, is the practical place to eat and swim longer if Samrong feels too bare.

Questions

Is Samrong Beach on Samui quiet?

It is a small bay at the northern tip, worth considering for a quiet stop. How empty it is on your day, you only see when you arrive.

How do you get to Samrong Bay Koh Samui by scooter?

From Chaweng, ride north past the airport toward Choeng Mon, then on to the tip, and follow the pin. There is asphalt near the bay; judge the last turn yourself. I do not have a set place to park.

Can you swim at Samrong Bay?

I have no note on depth, rocks or current, and no lifeguard to name. Swim only if the surface looks calm and you are comfortable in it. If it is choppy, stay on the shore.

Is the road to Samrong Bay OK for a beginner?

Ride slowly and assess the road as you go. Treat the last lane as optional and turn around if it looks rough. Thai law requires a motorcycle license, category A — for tourists, carry your national motorcycle licence together with a 1949 IDP showing category A, and a helmet. Fines change, check locally.
